This is my second year keeping track of everything that I read this year. Below is my year in books. Left to right and top to bottom on each post, starting with The Graveyard Book and ending at The Happiness Project.
This year, I also kept track of pace so I marked the posts by month.
Here are my top 5 recommendations (all fiction this year):
AMAZING! I started this while I was making dinner one night and could not put it down. I think I read it in a few hours. It’s extremely, EXTREMELY disturbing but so good all at the same time. It will haunt you and completely alter the way you see abduction or abuse victims.
This was the first of 2 books I read this year about stealing babies. I blame my uterus entirely. Dear uterus, shut your mouth and sit down. No one asked for your opinion. For your information, I don’t even like babies. So there! If babies and unconditional love are your thing, you’ll probably enjoy this one. Just don’t read it back to back with my next pick.
I read this one from afar because my home town’s DG alumnae group happened to be reading it for their book club interest group. The moral dilemmas and heartbreaking choices will keep you completely enthralled. PS- Thanks Central Florida Alumnae Chapter for your well maintained facebook page and excellent book choice!
Ugh, I can’t believe I’m about to do this. I’m going to majorly date myself: I was (just barely) in high school when the Columbine HS shooting took place. Hate List reminded me of Columbine. This book is a fictional account of what it might be like to have dated someone capable of that kind of violence and to worse, have potentially added fuel to the fire.
Thousands of Tumblr users can’t be wrong, right? I picked this up simply because so many of you were blogging about it. Well played, Tumblr fangirls, well played! I feel like I understand you all so much better now and we haven’t even met!
I know several of these are considered “young adult” fiction, but don’t let that dissuade you. They’re well worth your time.
That’s my year in 56 books. I exceeded my goal for the year by reading a book+ a week. I’d like to finish 2014 at 60-72 books. If you read anything that you’d recommend, drop me a note! I love recommendations!
